One of my favorite parts about heading to California to visit family is the opportunity to meet up with the Southern California diabetic all-stars.
While we usually meet at a sit-down restaurant, this meet-up took on a slightly more interesting form (Cherise also wrote about it on her blog). George and I got burgers and fries from the world-famous In-N-Out Burger and took them over to Chick-fil-A where Cherise and Jaimie ordered their food. Feeling slightly guilty about eating in Chick-fil-A, George and I also ordered giant diet sodas while we were there.
The day we met up was actually the same day that Michael Jackson passed away, so there were plenty of his songs on the radio. I guess that’s the only way I can explain this:
I think the only groups that hang out more often than the So Cal diabetics are the UK group and the twin cities groups. But I don’t think anyone has more fun at the meet-ups than the So Cal group. So to them I say – Beat it!*
*Get it? A Michael Jackson pun (too soon?) and a challenge. Let’s see some videos from the next time a diabetes group has a meet up and see how much fun you guys are having!
P.S. If you are not reading Diabeticizme right now or following Cherise on Twitter – you should be! She is an awesome person, has one of the most adorable kids I have ever seen and her husband is currently serving in the Army. She’s got a lot on her plate and she does it all with a smile on her face and (as evident in this video) a spring in her step!
