My local JDRF walk kick-off was this past weekend. I didn’t want to attend by myself, so I was very thankful when my niece agreed to go with me. You can imagine my surprise when I woke up Saturday morning with an offer from my brother for his whole family to join me instead. I am not used to doing any of this advocacy stuff with my family around yet!
We had a great time at the luncheon and even won a prize in the raffle. During the lunch we also settled on a team name. The family wasn’t too enthusiastic about my tentative selection. I asked them for help and told them I just wanted it to have my name in it somehow.
One nephew suggested “Ceratosaurus – pronounced Sara-the-saurus” but since I don’t know as much about dinosaurs as he does, I thought he was saying “Sara-thesaurus.” With a name like Sara, that would have been a pretty short book.
That idea did lead us down the dinosaur path though, which is how we settled on the official team name.
After the kick-off luncheon, we ran some errands together including a brief visit to a local furniture store. I wish my apartment was a little bigger because I am pretty sure that I may have found the chair that belongs in the home of every diabetes advocate.
