Tonight my local JDRF chapter is hosting an event called Rock the Walk. We’ve been busy prepping the last few weeks – recruiting volunteers, collecting raffle items, and (of course) selling tickets to the event. I am really excited to finally see it all together.
I think one of the most impressive parts of the event is the way it started. A few of the local families would host an event in one of their backyards the night before the big walk. The families would use it as a final fundraising push for all their friends. The event quickly outgrew the backyard with hundreds of attendees and thousands of dollars raised (you can read more at this link). What started as a backyard party is now one of the biggest fundraising events of the year for the chapter.
Carol Lurie and Lee Ducat were “just” parents of kids with diabetes before they founded JDRF. Now the organization they founded has provided more than $1.7 billion dollars in funding for diabetes research.
I have no doubt that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US has the potential to make a difference in diabetes advocacy as we improve the lives of people living with diabetes and work towards a cure. If you would like to help me in my efforts, please consider joining Team TriSaraTops Diabetes. It will certainly rock.
