Diabetes Awareness Month – Photo a Day – Healthcare

dmpad - day 26 - healthcare

Well, that was interesting. I received a call the first week of November from my endocrinologist’s office. I thought they were calling to confirm my appointment later that week. They were actually calling to cancel that appointment because THEY had JUST been notified that the entire practice was closing.

As indicated in the letter, this was NOT a decision made by my doctor. It actually caught most of the practice by surprise and left a lot of patients from several different doctors without access to their medical records or, in some cases, their medications (the controversy made the local papers).

Sometimes healthcare isn’t a matter of having good insurance or a good doctor, but making sure the investors are happy too.

Yes, and from my perspective: Patients are the most important investors, even if we don’t own shares in the business.

Excellent point! He really is a good doctor and I actually feel bad for him. He closed his previous practice to join this group and it hadn’t been open for even a year. I am guessing it isn’t easy to open and close offices and deal with related insurance company issues.
